The Milwaukee Brewers have made their first move of MLB trade deadline week by acquiring first baseman Carlos Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Santana, a 37 year old switch hitter, was traded at last year’s deadline as the Kansas City Royals dealt him to the Seattle Mariners.

After his two month stint with the Mariners, Santana agreed to a one year $6.25 MM deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This season he is slashing .235/.321/.412 with 12 home runs and 53 runs batted in. He also has +6 DRS at first base, which leads the league.

In exchange for Carlos Santana the Brewers are parting ways with 2022 International signee Jhonny Severino. The 18 year old was ranked 21st by MLB Pipeline in that class and this year he was playing in the Arizona Complex League.
