Elizabeth Warren Kicks Off 2020 Presidential Campaign

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren formally announced her candidacy for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination Saturday morning in Lawrence, saying she wants to build a "grassroots movement to give the power back to the people."

"This is the fight of our lives. The fight to build an America where dreams are possible, an America that works for everyone. I am in that fight all the way," Warren said to a cheering crowd of supporters. "And that is why I’m in Lawrence, MA today: to declare that I am a candidate for President of the United States of America."

Warren added that President Trump is the "latest - and most extreme" symptom of what's going wrong with America.

"It won’t be enough to just undo the terrible acts of this administration. We can’t afford to just tinker around the edges – a tax credit here, a regulation there. Our fight is for big, structural change," she told supporters on Saturday.

One Warren announced support for last month was a "wealth tax" on Americans who have more than $50 million in assets. Warren also referred to a "rigged system" in which people who don't have connections or money are unable to be heard in Washington D.C.

"When I talk about this, some rich guys scream 'class warfare!' Well, let me tell you something, these same rich guys have been waging class warfare against hard-working people for decades – I say it’s time to fight back." she said.

Warren joins an already-packed field of candidates for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, which includes Sens. Kamala Harris (D-CA), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Julian Castro.
